About CAFOD
CAFOD (Catholic Aid For Overseas Development) is a charity set up in 1961 by Catholic women. Since that time much has been done to raise awareness of the plight of those who suffer in poverty, especially children, in other countries. CAFOD aims to bring hope, compassion and solidarity to communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice.
The Vision of CAFOD ...
... is a world transformed to reflect the Kingdom of God: a world where:
- the rights and dignity of every person are respected
- all have access to basic needs in life
- women and men share equally in shaping their societies and our world
- the gifts of creation are nurtured and shared by all for the common good
- the structures that shape people’s lives are just and enable peace.

CAFOD is 50 years old!
A special mass to celebrate CAFOD`s birthday and to honour Archbishop Oscar Romero, who campaigned fearlessly for respect, responsibility and justice for the poor people of El Salvador, was held at Blessed Sacrament Church on 13th June 2011. We pray for the canonisation of Oscar Romero. We showed our support through prayer and the presentation of our own versions of the Romero Cross.
